Course/Module description:
What makes Muslim Iberia (Al Andalus) of c. the 10th-12th Centuries CE be viewed as the Golden Era of Hebrew verse? we will answer this question by defining what is unique to this school of Hebrew poetry, through the close reading of selected poems by its leading figures such as Ibn Ezra and Halevi.

- The uniqueness of the Andalusian school of Hebrew poetry and its cultural background - the encounter of Jewish and Arab cultures and the emergence of secular Hebrew poetry.
- Major genres of Andalusian Hebrew verse
- Personal poetry by the greatest Hebrew Andalusian poets.
