Course/Module description:
The course serves as an introductory tutorial to Hebrew poetry composed in the "Golden Era" of Muslim Spain (Al Andalus), with an emphasis on its major poets, especially Yehudah Halevi.

Course/Module aims:
A. An acquaintance with the main aspects of Medieval Hebrew poetics.
B. A more elaborated acquaintance with the poetry of R. Yehuda Ha-Levi

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
A. To recognize the major genres and themes of medieval Hebrew secular poetry created in Al-Andalus.
B. To perform a close, well informed reading of such a poem, while adequately utilizing the standard termino;ogy.

A. The uniqeness of Andalusian Hebrew poetry and its distinct cultural background.
B. The major genres of Andalusian Hebrew secular poetry - wine poems, erotic poems, panegyrics etc.
B. The personal poetry of R. Yehudah He-Levi
