Course/Module description:
This course aims to analyse different aspects of the polemical debate
surrounding the Sabbatian Kabbalist Nehemiah Hayon. We shall undertake a close reading of texts of both Hayon and his opponents
.

1to analyze the history of the Hayon polemics
2. to discuss the scholarship on the polemics
3. to read texts generated by the polemics

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
be familiar with one of the most contentious debates in the early modern Jewish history
