Course/Module description:
The course will examine the uniqueness of the religious Zionist's stream and the challenges of modernity to the religious thought. We will recognize different models for understanding the concept of Religious Zionism and we will study the thought of four central figures in this stream: Amiel, Soloveitchik, Kook and Hartman.
Course/Module aims:
What is the connection between the Zionist thought of these rabbis and their Jewish philosophy and Jewish worldview?
A new Perspective of understanding the philosophy of these rabbis in light of the Zionist's angle.
An acquaintance of various tools and models found in modern Orthodoxy concerning Zionism.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
The possibility to understand the challenges of modern times in relationship to Religion
To have a map of different models that can analyze this conflict and issue.

[1] Introduction: The challenge of the philosophical encounter (Hartman) and the challenge of the historical encounter (Ravitzky)
[2] The Plurality of Religious Zionism: A Mapping of Principles (Warhaftig); The Encounter Between Religion and State, Theological, Philosophical and Political implications.
3] Modernity and Main Models in the Thought of Religious Zionism: On The Holiness
[4] "The Expected and the Given Authority" Between Religion and State-Judaism and Democracy: on Borders and Translation
[5-6] The thought of Rabbi Moshe Avigdor Amiel; The Political's and Anti-Political's philosophy; The relationship between Israel and the Nations and its Zionist Contexts of his thoughts.
[7-9] Rabbi Soloveitchik and his philosophy in front of modernity, secularism, Kantianism, existentialism, a covenant of destiny and covenant of fate, and Halakhah - the connections to his approach to Zionism.
[10] Rabbi David Hartman and his connections to Rabbi Soloveitchik and beyond: philosophy and History
[11-13] Rav Kook: Between Implicit and Explicit Religion in the Writings of Rabbi Kook; Between Catholic'sand Protestant's thought; The Unity of Opposites: The Political Implications. Individual and society; And historical immanence.

If the course will be conducted by zoom, I will prepare, as much as possible, presentations that will help the learning process.
If the course will be conducted by zoom, I guess we will only be able to cover half of the study materials of this syllabus.
