Course/Module description:
We shall read excerpts from Otsar Hayyim in the Moscow and other manuscripts, and in the transcripts being made from it in the on-going project of publishing this book, under the guidance of the Professors Boaz Huss and Yehuda Liebes. In reading we take notice of the character of text and author, of his mystical and magical experiences and practices, of his eschatology and Messsianism, and of his special world view and its variegated sources, in philosophical and mystical (mainly Sufi) literature, as well as in Cabbalistic literature: in the circles of Nahmanides, R. Abraham Abulafia and the Zohar. We shall discuss also his hermeneutics, his midrashic creativity and his sources in midrashic and pseudo-midrashic texts.
