Course/Module description:
The course for advanced Zohar will be dedicated this year to reading segments of a the 'Idra Zuta' – 'The Small Assembly".
This essay describes the event of the gathering at Rabbi Shim'on Bar Yohai on the day he departs from the world. At this assembly the great master teacher and mystic reveals secrets concerning the emanation, structure and various faces of Divinity.
We will be reading in Aramaic and Hebrew translation parts of this artistic essay, exploring its layers dimensions: Narrative, Mythic, homiletic, theurgical-mystical, poetic .

Course/Module aims:
Developing reading skills and analytical skills of the Aramaic of the Zohar.
Aquiring tools to approach and understand one of the most difficult texts of Zoharic literature.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
final paper or seminar paper

in each class we read a text from the portion we are studying, using classical and modern commentators and scholars to unpack the text:
Rabbi Moshe Cordovero, Chayim Vital, Avraham Azlai,Ashlag, Friesh, Edri, Yehuda Ptaya
