Course/Module description:
This course is the core requirement for the interdisciplinary Program for the Study of Sephardi and Mizrahi Jews (although we also welcome students from other programs!). The course will examine seven main themes in the academic study of Sephardi and Mizrahi Jews through three different perspectives, involving time period, space and methodology. In each theme we will also host a guest speaker.

Course/Module aims:
A familiarity with the main themes in the study of Sephardi and Mizrahi Jews and the academic literature about these themes.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
In the end of the course, the students would be able to comprehend and evaluate in their writings cutting edge research on Sephardi and Mizrahi Jews.

Course/Module Content:
Jewish spaces from the medieval to the modern periods; Jews, surrounding society and the state; the Jewish community; questions of identity; Leadership and communal elite; Cultural creativity; The Family; migration and immigration.
