Course/Module description:
The course will analyze and discuss immigration to Israel from 1948 through today, similarities and dissimilarities in demographic and socio-economic characteristics, spatial dispersion, family and gender, Jewish identity, voting patterns, and more.
Course/Module aims:
To expose students to major meeting points of Jews from different social and cultural backgrounds, how the ethnic dimension has evolved over time, and what are the major schools of thought on ethnicity in contemporary Israel.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Understanding of major processes of the Israeli society of the last 75 years;familiarity with materials in the social sciences that deal with modern Israel; and exposure to general theories on immigration and ethnic mixing.

The development of the Jewish settlement in pre-statehood era; immigration; population dynamics; social stratification; family and gender; Jewish and Israeli identity; voting patterns; leaving the promised land; Holocause memory; Israel in a comparative Jewish perspective.
