Course/Module description:
Reading of texts from the Second Temple – Mishnaic and Talmudic pesiods (from Hellenistic to Byzantine periods), mainly from Eretz-Israel, as a background for understanding the Jewish life.
The texts include letters, legal documents, synagogues inscriptions, magical inscriptions, Burial inscriptions and other everyday life inscriptions.

Course/Module aims:

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:

Read and understand Jewish inscriptions from the period under discussion
Understand the cultural and social context of inscriptions
Draw social and cultural conclusions from the inscriptions
To express an opinion on the development of Jewish society during the period under discussion

11. Incantation bowls, amulets and Jewish magic
12. Zoar tombstones inscriptions
