Course/Module description:
Introduction to the history of Jews in the medieval Islamic world.

Course/Module aims:
Primary acquaintance with the subject, scholarly literature and the historical sources for its study

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
read, understand and discuss relevant secondary sources

6. The Cairo Geniza, Judeo-Arabic
7. Jews, the city, and the economy.
8. The Jewish Family
9. Jews and the cultural effloresce of the medieval Islamic world
10. Al-Andalus – truly a golden age?
11. Jews and other Islamic movements (Jews and the Shiʿa, Jewish Sufis?)
12. The other face of Symbiosis
13. The Mamluks and conclusion.
