Course/Module description:
Integrative discussion of selected issues in the history of Israel from its beginning to the Persian period. We will look at possible historical reconstructions in the light of biblical and extra-biblical sources, and archaeological data.
Course/Module aims:
* To introduce the major events, processes and issues connected to the reconstruction of the Biblical Period.
* To draw a chronological outline of the history of Israel from its beginnings till the end of the Persian Period.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:

2) The "Period of the Patriarchs"
3) The Land of Israel in the transition from the Bronze Age to the Iron Age - the Amarna Letters
4 ) Who is an Israeli - Merneptah stele , Archaeological data
5) Exodus , settlement and the "Period of the Judges"
6) The United Kingdom
7) Shishak's campaign
8) the ninth century: the Dynasty of Omri. Battle of Qarqar . Relations with Mesha, king of Moab. Aram -Israeli wars during the days of Ahab.
9) The second half of the ninth century: the revolution of Jehu, the conquests of Hazael king of Aram Damascus.
10) Days of Jeroboam II (son of Joash) - eighth century BCE.
11) Conquests of Tiglath-pileser III king of Assyria .
12) The destruction of Samaria and the exile of Israel.
13) The days of Hezekiah king of Judah: religious reform; Sennacherib's campaign.
14) Days of Manasseh.
15) Josiah's reform.
16) Judah between Egypt and Babylon, Battle of Carchemish.
17) the exile of Jehoiachin, the destruction of the kingdom of Judah, the Babylonian exile.
