Course/Module description:
The course discusses central issues in Jewish history during the 16th to 18th centuries. It traces economic, social, political, religious and cultural aspects of Jewish life in Europe and elsewhere.

Course/Module aims:
While discussing central issues in modern Jewish history, the seminar also aims to acquaint students with the methodology of historical research and with the main characteristics of academic studies in the field.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Learn to distinguish the main academic approaches and to criticize them, to connect specific phenomena with long term process, to summarize historical tendencies and categorize them.

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Each week students will analyze an academic article and present their conclusions in class. A short written assignment will be submitted.
