תאור כללי של הקורס:
קדמוניות היהודים הנו הספר הבדידי לידיעת תקופת הבית השני. ספר יח פותח את הרצאת יוספוס על השלטון הרומי ביהודה, ובכך פותח את סיפורו של החורבן. הקורס מוקדש לאתגרים ולשיקולים שיש להתמודד עמם כאשר ניגשים לספר הן כדי ללמוד מה אירע, הן כדי ללמוד על אודות עמדותיו של יוספוס כלפי המאורעות והתהליכים הנידונים והמשתקפים בספר.

מטרות הקורס:
הקורס שואף לתת לתלמידים ניסיון ומיומנות בקריאה קפדנית, בתרגום לעברית, של ספר היסטוריוגרפי יווני אשר נכתב על ידי יהודי אשר חי בסמיכות מקום וסמיכות זמן לחלק ניכר מן האירועים והפרשות שהספר עוסק בהם.

תוצרי למידה :
בסיומו של קורס זה, סטודנטים יהיו מסוגלים:
To read sections of Josephus taking into account issues of text, interpretation, biases, sources, and the relationship to other sources -- thereby allowing for the reconstruction of what happened and also for the identification of Josephus' attitudes and their contextualization in the circumstances of his life and work. Will also appreciate the heuristic importance of comparing different translations.

שיטת ההוראה בקורס: At the start of the course students will be asked to choose topics for their papers, and after several introductory sessions they will give oral presentations of their work-in-progress
