Course/Module description:
A thorough examination of the folk Jewish visual culture created in the land and State of Israel since the foundation of the Bezalel School Old (1906) to the early decades after the establishment of the State.

Course/Module aims:
Knowledge and deep understanding of the little known folk Jewish and Israeli visual culture produced in the land o Israel, vis-a-vis historical, cultural and religious ideologies of the periods discussed.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
The ability to examine and evaluate the Jewish folk art created in the land of Israel against the background of dramatic events and religious and secular ideologies that shaped the Jewish people in the course of the 20th century.

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Lecture and class discussions.

Course/Module Content:
Historical and socio-cultural examination of many fields of the Jewish and Israeli visual arts created in the land of Israel. A detailed list of the subjects appears in the Hebrew syllabus.

Additional information:
Active participation and presence in all class sessions; short exercises and final paper.
The class includes visits to relevant collections in public museums and private collections (one - outside of town).
