Course/Module description:
The course will look at the connections between people material culture and memory. We will discuss the complex ways in which matter preserves and erases memory. We will examine the elusiveness of memory in face of the presence of matter. We will present practices and politics constructing memory in the private and the collective spheres. We will deal with biographical objects, memory objects, the transformation of objects into memory objects and more.

Course/Module aims:
To examine the relationship between the material and the non material by exploring the concept of memory and its elusive presence in material culture .

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
At the completion of the course students will be acquainted with interpretative theories of material culture and will be able to analyse the complex functions of memory in creating meaning.
