תאור כללי של הקורס:
מבוא לסיווג, תורת ההגה ותורת הצורות של השפות השמיות. יושם דגש על התיאור ההיסטורי והדיאכרוני של משפחת השפות השמיות וגלגוליה מהאם השמית (פרוטו-שמית).

מטרות הקורס:
להכיר לסטודנטים את התפתוות השפות השמיות לאור תורת הבלשנות ההיסטורית ולהכיר להם את יחסי הקרבה והריחוק בין השפות השמיות השונות.

תוצרי למידה :
בסיומו של קורס זה, סטודנטים יהיו מסוגלים:
הסטודנטים יבינו את תולדות השפות השמיות ואת יחסיהן אחת עם השנייה וגם יבינו את ההישגים והקשיים בחקר הבלשנות ההיסטורית וההשוואתית
