Course/Module description:
During the 18th century, French authors proposed ideas which ultimately led to the French Revolution and to the rise of a new society. This course will deal with the importance of those works written during this era by Montesquieu, Voltaire, Beaumarchais, and Rousseau.
Course/Module aims:
To understand the theories of the Age of Enlightenment, by focusing on the link between literature, philosophy, and politics, during that period.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
-To study the major works of that era, and to acquire tools for their literary analysis
-To relate these works to their historical and social contexts
