Course/Module description:
The course will deal with phenomena that reflect the textual fluidity of Talmudic literature. We will study a wide range of examples that demonstrate various aspects of fluidity, and will attempt to understand their significance to the understanding of the history of Tannaitic and Amoraitic learning and the history of Talmudic literature.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Characterize various types of textual fluidity in Talmudic literature.
Distinguish between a fixed text, a fluid text, and non-textual transmission.
Assess the significance of various phenomena of fluidity to the understanding of the history of Tannaitic and Amoraitic learning.
Assess the significance of various phenomena of fluidity to the understanding of the redaction of Talmudic texts.
Assess the significance of various phenomena of fluidity to the understanding of the transmission of Talmudic texts.

Oral transmissions and written transmissions.
History of the Oral Law- fluid and fixed.
Fluidity in written Jewish texts, earlier than Rabbinic literature.
Fluidity in fixed texts.
Redaction- phenomena of fluidity in the redaction of Talmudic texts.
Transmission- phenomena of fluidity in the transmission of Talmudic texts.
