Course/Module description:
We will examine a wide variety of textual corruptions or apparent 'corruptions' found in textual witnesses of the Babylonian Talmud, in an attempt to clarify their significance for the history of the editing of the Babylonian Talmud and its early transmission.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
To characterize different types of corruptions found in the textual witnneses of the
Babylonian Talmud.
To distinguish between different levels of corruptions.
To distinguish between corruptions and apparent 'corruptions'.
To assess the significance of corruptions to the history of the editing of the
Babylonian Talmud.
To assess the significance of corruptions to the history of the transmission of the
Babylonian Talmud.
