Course/Module description:
Study of selected subjects that exemplify the development of the Halakhah and the Jewish thought in the Mishnah and Talmud period.
Course/Module aims:
Presentation of the 'Rabbinic Revolution' and the vitality of the Halakhah and the Jewish thought during the 1-6 centuries A.D.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Elementary recognition of basic Talmudic books; Recognition elementary factors in the fashioning of the Jewish Halakhah; Acquisition of primary tools to reading Talmudic sources by philological and historical methods.

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction:
Study of selected subjects by learning sources from the literature of the Mishnah, the Tosefta, the Tannaitic Midrashim and the Talmuds.
Course/Module Content:
General description of the Jewish ancient literature after the Biblical period; Judicial executions; Cancellation of the capital punishment; From temple to synagogue; The Development of the regular prayers; The relation between redemption of Israel and the universal prophesy; The Relation to the Gentile; From prophet to sage; Strengthening the value of Talmud Torah; the relation to the controversy.
Required Reading:
2-3 scientific articles including together 40-50 pages.
