Course/Module description:
A thorough examination of the Jewish visual arts in Renaissance and Baroque Italy, vis-a-vis the culture, arts, and socio-historical factors of the time.

Course/Module aims:
Knowledge and deep understanding of the Jewish visual materials produced in Italy and their historical, cultural and religious background.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
The ability to examine and evaluate the art of a religious minority against its complicated relationships with the culture and art of the host society, its relationships to other Jewish communities and its influence.

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Lecture and class discussions

Course/Module Content:
Art historical and socio-cultural examination of all fields of the Jewish visual arts in Italy from Late Antiquity and on, with special emphasis on the works created by or for Jews from the 15th to the 18th centuries. A detailed list of the subjects in the section.
