תאור כללי של הקורס:
בקורס ייבחנו ציורי הקיר והציורים על גבי לוחות עץ של התרבויות היווניות והאיטלקיות למן תקופת הברונזה ועד שלהי העת העתיקה. במסגרת הקורס ננתח באופן ביקורתי את הגישות השונות לחקר ציור הקיר המונומנטלי, נתייחס להקשרים האדריכליים המגוונים של הציורים, נעקוב אחר תהליכים של המשכיות וחיקוי וכן נעמוד על האתגר המיוחד שמציב המחקר של אמנות הציור בתקופות מהן לא נותרו ממצאים. מגוון הנושאים המתואר בציור גדול הממדים הוא רחב וכולל סצנות דתיות וטקסיות, דמויות וסיפורים מן המיתולוגיה, נופים, טבע דומם ותיאורים מחיי יומיום. לצד ניתוח האיקונוגרפיה, טכניקות הציור, אופן ייצוג החלל בתמונה והסגנון נעמוד על ההקשר התרבותי והחברתי של היצירות מתוך רצון להבין את תפקידם בחברה, הרעיונות והערכים שהם משקפים וכן את אופן התקבלותם על ידי הקהל שצפה בהם.

מטרות הקורס:
במסגרת הקורס נכיר את אמנות הציור של התרבויות היווניות והאיטלקיות למן האלף השני לפני הספירה ועד למאה ה-4 לספירה. באמצעות ניתוח של ציורים שונים נתוודע אל שאלות מחקריות שהם מעלים ואל מגוון הגישות בהן ניתן לדון בהם.

תוצרי למידה :
בסיומו של קורס זה, סטודנטים יהיו מסוגלים:
היכרות עם מגוון רחב של ציורים גדולי ממדים של התרבויות הקלאסיות
היכרות עם מגוון מקורות מידע בני הזמן הנחוצים להבנת יצירות האמנות
היכרות עם גישות מחקריות מסורתיות וחדשות בתחום האמנות הקלאסית
פתוח יכולת של קריאה ביקורתית של ספרות המחקר באמצעות הצגה של עמדות מנוגדות
