Course/Module description:
This course will focus on understanding the dynamics of stress and trauma at the individual and family levels. We will examine various types of stress and trauma and their impact on the physical, emotional, and social functioning of individuals, as well as their impact on family relationships and functioning . We will explore coping mechanisms for dealing with stress and trauma. We will also examine factors that either promote or hinder healthy adaptation for both the individual and the family.
In the course, we will study theories of stress and trauma at both the individual and the family levels. In addition, we will learn about therapeutic intervention approaches, models, and techniques. Emphasis will be placed on a holistic approach and integrative therapy targeting stress and trauma. We will also learn the principles of the TF-CBT (Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) treatment model. We will examine ways to promote resilience in individuals and families.
Furthermore, we will closely examine the experiences of social workers when interacting with populations dealing with stress and trauma, and discuss strategies to minimize the risk of secondary traumatization.

Course/Module aims:

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
1. Understand the dynamics of stress and trauma at both the individual and the family levels, based on theories and models of trauma, stress, and coping.
2. Deepen their understanding of the foundations of social work in situations of stress and trauma, and manage therapeutic relationships based on these foundations.
3. Evaluate the effecacy of their intervention and therapeutic approach, tailoring it to the needs of the client, with an emphasis on stress and trauma informd integrative therapy .
4. Identify cultural and socio-political components in the course of their work with individuals and families dealing with stress and trauma.
5. Examine their professional identity when interacting with clients experiencing stress and trauma.

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: The teaching method in the course, will rely on, frontal lectures, video presentations, in-class exercises, discussions, and case analysis.

• Approaches and models for the treatment of stress and trauma situations: between the psychodynamic therapy and the cognitive-behavioral therapy
• Stress management, coping strategies, emotional regulation, sensory regulation, and resilience Building.
• Treatment of stress and trauma in a cultural, socio-political context.
• Secondary traumatization among therapists
