Course/Module description:
The course will present the main characteristics of short –term psychodynamic psychotherapy, combining theory, research and application to different clinical populations. Two therapy models will be presented: 1) James Mann’s Time Limited Psychotherapy (12 sessions), which focuses on perception of self and chronic pain, and 2) Lubprsky’s Supportive-Expressive Psychotherapy (16-35 sessions) which focuses on interpersonal conflicts.
Course/Module aims:
1. To become familiar with 2 main models of short term dynamic therapy and their application to different populations.
2. To understand the process in short term psychodynamic therapy and the mechanisms of change.
3. To learn about the efficacy of short terms treatments, and their limitations.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
1. To be able to select clients for short terms dynamic psychotherapy, based on intake and questionnaire.
2. To formulate a therapeutic focus within the two therapy models: Mann and Luborsky
3. To analyze the change processes in short term therapy, specifically the importance of different therapy stages.
4. To be able to evaluate the effectiveness of short term dynamic therapy for different disorders.

Lectures, psychotherapy videos and case examples from the short term therapy literature.
Course/Module Content:
1.What is short term psychotherapy ? Relationship between treatment length and outcome. Short term therapy vs. crisis intervention.
2.Criteria for patient selection.
3.James Mann’s Time Limited Psychotherapy: the model and the mechanisms of change.
4.Case example: creating a central issue and the therapy process.
5.Short term therapy with adolescents: Mann’s model.
6.Supportive-Expressive Psychotherapy: the model and suitable patients.
7.Phases of therapy and creating the CCRT focus.
8.Case analysis : Socialization interview and phase 1
9.Case analysis: phase 2: working through of the past, work on transference
10.Case analysis: Termination
11.Short term dynamic therapy for anxiety and depression.
12.Short-term therapy for personality disorders ? and summary.
