Course/Module description:
This course explores leadership and management within organizations, with a specific focus on non-profit and social impact organizations.
Throughout the course, we will define leadership and distinguish it from management. We will delve into the characteristics of constructive and adaptive leadership, as well as the management of complex systems. Topics include: Solving complex problems and leading systemic change.
Trust-based leadership and relevant management methodologies.
Navigating human capital and organizational politics

Course Objectives
Developing cognitive processes, perceptions, and applied approaches for working as managers and leaders within and for non-profit organizations (NPOs).
Cultivating the ability to manage tensions and complexities in leading social systems and solving social issues, including the implementation of sustainable changes.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Students will apply tailored management methods for the professional administration of NPOs and utilize systems thinking to solve complex problems.
Students will solve complex problems while distinguishing between leadership and management, utilizing adaptive leadership models, systems thinking, and Peter Senge’s Iceberg Model.
Students will demonstrate professional proficiency in managing the inherent tensions of social sector management.
Students will develop tension-management skills specifically relevant to the leadership and operation of non-profit organizations.
