Course/Module description:
In the course of life, people experience many types of losses. This may come with short or long term consequences.
In the western world, this is a field that arises fears and doubts among the general community and also proffesionals.
This course deals with loss, grief and bereavment and will include a review of theories and therapeutic models that were developed throughout the years. Through this course students will learn how to accompany different process of loss, paying special attention to gender and cultural sensitivities. This course will also include how to accompany processes of transformation after trauma and grief and the learning of the main and most updated intervention thechniques.
In addition, there will be an important attention on self care and the develop of resiliency amongst therapists in their work with patients that are going through different types of losses.
Course/Module aims:
This course objective is to give tools, information and study of different perceptions of loss to create a platform of knowledge and sense of profesional security in the working with patients that have gone trought some type of loss in their lives.
This course will review different definitions on the field of loss bereavement and also theories to acompanny process of loss with patients. The students will also learn the importance of how to break bad news to children and adults in a proffesional and empathetic way. And also the consequences of recieving bad news in distorted way on the grief process.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
-To describe terms and different descriptions of loss and grief.
-To develop abilities for the use of loss and grief models to do appropriate interventions in different cases of loss.
-To know how to break bad news
-To asess the implications for the therapists working in the field of loss, grief and bereavment.

In this course there are various learning methods: Presentations, films, discussions and group exercises.

Difrent concepts from the filed of bereavement.
Breaking bad news.
Verios models that have developed over the years.
The effect of cultural and gender differences on coping with bereveament.
Impplications of working with bereavement on the therapist.
