Course/Module description:
The course contents will engage in learning the historical roots of the profession and its goals today in light of the social changes over the years, knowing of values and ethics on which the profession is based, the main theories and criticism identified with it.
Course/Module aims:
1. Providing knowledge of the social work profession in various aspects: development, nature, values, ethics and culture-sensitive interventions.
2. Learning about theories and approaches underlying the major models of social work intervention, and understanding the relationship among the various forms of intervention.
3. Extending the knowledge of critical theories developed in the social work profession.
4. Developing awareness, an ability of observation, evaluation and critical thinking regarding the meeting between knowledge, expectations, perceptions and assumptions students have about the profession, and social issues - cultural and professional principles and values.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
At the conclusion of this course, students will be able to understand the development of professional social workers, the historical roots and changes therein during the history. Understand the code of ethics of the profession and dealing with ethical dilemmas in the field. Students will understand the use of themselves as part of the intervention and the importance of developing self-awareness and understanding of their place in the intervention process itself. Likewise, students will be exposed and can make use of the main approaches in the profession relating to a person in need - such as forces approach and systems approach.

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction:
The method of teaching the course will be a combination of frontal lectures and film presentations. The course will be held several meetings with external guests.
