Scopus Course/Module Coordinator: Valery Hazanov, Ph.D. Coordinator Email: valery.hazanov@mail.huji.ac.il Coordinator Office Hours: Monday, 18:30-19:30 Teaching Staff: Dr. Valery Hazanov Course/Module description: The course will provide theoretical and clinical understanding of assessment and intervention in times of crisis. Further, it will provide students with a broad theoretical framework of crisis that can be applicable for brief, focal therapeutic interventions for a wide range of clients with multiple life crises. Crisis, for the purposes of the course and following literature in the field, will be viewed on a continuum: from extreme, acute cases (rape, terrorist attacks, life threatening accidents) to milder and more common cases (divorce and separation, loss, significant role transitions in life). Students will learn how to assess crises in terms of psychopathology, symptomatology, and broader communal/societal contexts and how to intervene accordingly. The emphasis of the course will be on clinical applicability; following the course, students should possess the necessary skills, theoretical understanding, and clinical mindset to 1) Assess and intervene in times of crisis, and 2) Provide focal, brief interventions focused on alleviating the psychosocial effects of crisis states. Throughout the course, many clinical examples will be given, guest lecturers will present their work in the field, and students will be encouraged to apply the crisis framework for their own clinical presentations and thinking.
