Course/Module description:
The rationale underlying the course is the increasing need of managers in the third sector of policy-advocacy skills. These skills are important for the organization and needed in order to realize its goals, especially those related to policy changes for excluded and marginalized populations.
The course will focus on policy-advocacy activities of third sector organizations aimed at influencing social policy and creating social change.
Course/Module aims:
1.To acquaintance the students with knowledge on policy advocacy by third sector organizations.
2.To acquaintance the students with knowledge on strategies and tactics of managing policy advocacy.
3. To enable the students to experience the practice of planning and evaluating policy-advocacy.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Define and evaluate policy processes.
Diagnose and define social problems as policy problems.
Formulate policy alternatives.
Initiate and design an action plan for policy change and evaluate its impact.

What is policy-advocacy?
How is policy being formulated and how do third sector organizations take part in its creation?: theories of the policy process.
Defining social problems as policy problems.
Formulation of policy alternative.
An action plan for policy change: goals, strategies and tactics.
