Course/Module description:
The course focuses on reading comprehension, the ability to elicit the main ideas out of a text and to summarize it. Comprehension depends not only on understanding the content, but also on identifying the structure. At the same time, the students practice writing in class and in weekly homework assignments. In the second half of the course the emphasis is on argumentative writing. The course also enriches the students' vocabulary in Hebrew, including words from foreign languages and idioms.

Course/Module aims:
To improve the students’ following skills: reading comprehension skill; to develop their ability to read critically; to teach them how to summarize information; to acquaint them with possible structures of an academic paper; to enable them to accurately formulate arguments; to improve their commandment of different linguistic registers.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
- to extract the main idea in argumentative and information articles of certain compexity;
- identify underlying structures of articles;
- put the main themes of an article in their own words;
- formulate an argument and defend it;
- make correct use the lexical units acquired during the course.


Attendance requirements(%):
100%. In case of illness, military service or any other justified reason for absence, the student must arrange with his teacher to make up missed assignments.

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Reading articles and comprehending them in class. Once a week a written assignment that reflects understanding of information and writing ability.

- Reading comprehension and critical reading, esp. of academic texts;
- Summery;
- Identifying a paper’s parts;
- writing an argumentative essay;
- lexical enrichment

Required Reading:
The texts to be read in the classes will be compiled in a reader which the students have to purchase.
