Course/Module description:
The course deals with the fundamental principles of economics – production and consumption, with the method of economic analysis and understanding of the economic dynamics, and with the development of economic thought.
The course is divided to three: intro to microeconomics, intro to macroeconomics and history of economic thought.

Course/Module aims:
Familiarity with basic economic concepts and understanding the form of economic thinking, and deep understanding of economic theory, from familiarity with its roots.
Basic ability to work with databases

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Analyze everyday situations using economic tools, describe how the economic system is working as a whole and state key milestones in economic thought and link them to current economic theory.
Extract data, process and analyze it

Attendance requirements(%):
A Student cannot be qualified to test without at least 80% attendance, in each semester.

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Lectures and Exercises

Course/Module Content:
A. Intro to micro - What is economic model, scarcity, trade, economic units, the producer and supply, the consumer and demand, equilibrium
B. Intro to macro - Aggregate production and national accounting, economic growth, saving and investment, international trade, money and prices, unemployment, classical and Keynesian equilibrium
C. History of economic thought - Seeds of economic thought, Adam Smith and the beginning of modern economic thought, classical economics, marginal revolution, Keynes and Hayek

The course is supported by a weekly meeting delivered by a teaching assistant (1 hours weekly). Attendance at these meetings are not mandatory, but is recommended.
The assessment structure and schedule are tentative and subject to changes by the Academic Secretariat as well as changes in teaching conditions. Changes will be updated in class and in the course moodle; it is the students' responsibility to keep track of updates.
