Course/Module description:
The course consists of two units that are taught in parallel: a historical unit that in which the student is exposed to chapters in Western culture (from early civilizations of the ancient world to the era of revolutions), and a historiographical unit that deals with historical thinking, in which the student will get acquainted with the concepts of 'history' and 'historiography'. In the latter unit we will learn how to read historical sources, discuss the question of objectivity in history, explore various issues in modern historiography and learn about the connection between history and other disciplines (such as literature, cinema, sociology, anthropology and psychology).
Western culture serves as a convenient way to become acquainted with the historical timeline and helps to provide a glimpse into diverse fields of opinion - literature, philosophy, religion, science, education, law, and art. As part of the historical discussion of Western culture in the course, we will become acquainted with the assets of Western society, since the West, for its culture and power, continues to be a central pillar in shaping world history. Alongside the body of knowledge, the discussion is critical - we will try to explore continuities and ruptures throughout Western culture as well as understand how the West has become dominant in terms of knowledge, resources and access to them

Course/Module aims:
Course aims to expose students to a theoretical discussion of basic concepts in historical thinking and research, along with introduction to selected chapters in Western culture.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
The course will provide students with an extensive historical body of knowledge along with familiarity with the various research methods of the historical discipline and ways of applying them. These will develop critical thinking as well as provide foundations for research and writing in the humanities.

Attendance requirements(%):
A Student cannot be qualified to test without at least 80% attendance, in each semester.

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Lectures, analysis of written sources, art imagery presentations, various films and writing workshops.
