תאור כללי של הקורס:
הקורס מורכב משלושה מפגשים במהלך סמסטר ב: מפגש והרצאה של פרופ' יאן בימאן ב19.3.14 ; מפגש נוסף לאחר פסח; מפגש טכני ללימוד שימוש בTOTAL STATION וציור חרסים. כן נדרשת השתתפות בהרצאות על מונגוליה והאימפריה המאוחדת בכנס ובבית ספר קיץ ב29.6-4.7.14 ובחפירה של כחמישה שבועות במונגוליה (סוף יולי-ראשית ספטמבר).

מטרות הקורס:
הכרות עם התרבות החומרית המקומית, קשרי המסחר בין קרקורום לבין מרכזים אחרים מאותה התקופה והבנת מעמד העיר ביחס לסביבה. בנוסף לכך הקורס יקנה הכרות בסיסית עם ההיסטוריה של האימפריה המונגולית ועם הארכאולוגיה של מונגוליה בכלל.

תוצרי למידה :
בסיומו של קורס זה, סטודנטים יהיו מסוגלים:
להיות מיומנים בחפירה ארכאולוגית ובתיעוד ממצאיה, להתמצא בהיסטוריה מונגולית ובבעיות הקשורות בארכאולוגיה נומדית

שיטת ההוראה בקורס: השתתפות במספר הרצאות הכנה ובחפירה לימודית.

רשימת נושאים / תכנית הלימודים בקורס:
קריאת חומר הקריאה לפני המפגשים ולפני הנסיעה למונגוליה; השתתפות פעילה במפגשים, בכנס ובחפירות, הגשת דוח חפירות או רפרט בנושא הקשור להיסטוריה מונגולית. עד ראשית שנת הלימודים הבאה (26.10.14).

חומר חובה לקריאה:
חומר הקריאה לקורס כולל 3 שלוש חטיבות: רקע כללי על מונגוליה והמונגולים; קטעי מקורות ראשוניים מתקופת האימפריה המאוחדת (1206-1260) בה נבנתה קראקורום ובמהלכה שמשה כבירה; ספרות ארכאולוגית על מונגוליה ועל קראקורום. חומר קריאת החובה וכן לא מעט מאמרים לקריאה נוספת סרוקים באתר המודול של הקורס.
