Course/Module description:
This course prepares students for writing a Master's thesis at the Institute of Criminology. The workshop focuses on choosing a topic for the thesis and identifying a potential supervisor, choosing a research question and method, finding data and funding, preparing a research proposal and writing the final thesis and an academic publication. Students will become familiar with the difficulties of carrying out a research project, such as lack of access to relevant data, ethical, methodological and other concerns, and will examine possible ways to overcome these barriers.

Course/Module aims:
The main purpose of this course is to provide research-track students with the necessary knowledge and tools for writing a Master's thesis in Criminology.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Locate relevant literature to a selected topic
Identify and different types of literature, summarize and evaluate it.
Locate a potential supervisor
Develop a research question
Write a proposal for a Master's thesis
Discuss and deal with ethical concerns in academic research
Discuss and deal with various difficulties that may arise while carrying out a research project.

Additional information:
The completion of this course with the grade of 80 or above is a requirement for studying in the research track and writing a Master's thesis.
The requirements of the course include: full attendance, active participation, reading the material assigned in class, giving a presentation and submitting the final project.
