Course/Module description:
This interdisciplinary course reviews the interplay between demographic, social, economic and cultural trends and between policies. These interrelationships are discussed with regard to the family institution.
Course/Module aims:
This course will introduce MA students to major macro-level demographic, economic, societal and cultural trends which affected and were affected by changes in the family institution. The way in which these trends shaped family-related policies and were affected by different policies will be dicussed in the course.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Identify the relationships between different demographic trends and between economic, social and cultural trends
Identify the interrelationships between demographic trends and policy
Make use of macro data, interpret relevant quantitative data presented in graphs and tables

The decline in fertility and the increase in life expectancy
Migration
4th unit - Policy
The interplay between policy and demographic trends
