Course/Module description:
The goal of this course is to understand the importance of education as part of citizenship in a democratic state. We will read resources that touch on the connections between citizenship, democracy and education. In addition, we will reflect on several case studies from the Israeli and global contexts that demonstrate these connections.

Course/Module aims:
Exposure to the academic discourse surrounding the field of civic education in a Democratic state.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Conduct a thoughtful examination of an educational project from the field of civic education.

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Lectures, classroom discussions and student presentations (optional).

- Introduction to the topics of: citizenship, education and civic education
- Presentation of four theoretical models of civic education
- "Translating" from theory to practice
- Examination of case studies
