Course/Module description:
The course deals with the unique role and the declared aims of the judiciary and the legal system as an organ of conflict resolution, and examines its achievements and failures in fulfilling these role and aims.
We shall study, analyze and criicize the principles and values guiding the functioning of the system and the depth of d its commitment to the rule of law. We shall also examine the impact of political intervenntion and media coverage on achieving and enforcing law and justice.
Course/Module aims:
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
To analyze and criticize the commitment of the judiciary to achieve justice
To determine the level of protection of human rights, gender equality and minority rights in Israel
To analyze and criticize the commitment of the Attorney-General to equality before the law
To examine and explain the scope and legitimacy of the High Court of Justice in the occupied territories
To evaluate the contribution of the judiciary to the war on corruption
