Course/Module description:
Reading, analysing and translating some of the central Old Babylonian hymns to Ištar, esp. the one called "Ištar Louvre".

Course/Module aims:
Familiarising with the high and poetic register of 2st mill. Akkadian.
Getting to know Akkadian hymnal literature.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Translate and analyse literary texts in 1st mill. Akkadian, with the help of dictionaries and other philological tools.

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Close reading of the text after careful preparation at home.

Course/Module Content:
Akkadian hymns in ancient Mesopotamia in general and the composition "Ištar Louvre" in particular.
