Course/Module description:
Reading of letters from the Mari archive: prophecies, women's letters, and official letters of the Mari administration.

Course/Module aims:
Getting to know the Mari archive.
Familiarising with the epistolary language of this archive.
Learning the typical features of the Mari dialect.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Being able to read different kinds of letter from the Mari archive.
Using the rich secondary literature reg. this important archive.

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Reading and discussing in class after thorough preparation at home.

Historical survey of the kingdom of Mari.
Types of texts in the Mari archive.
The epistolary language of the Mari letters.
Prophecy in the ancient Near East.
