Course/Module description:
Getting familiar with the Assyrian dialect of Akkadian (the dialect of northern Mesopotamia), stressing the main grammatical differences between it and the Babylonian dialect (of southern Mesopotamia).
We shall read some letters of Assyrian merchants from the colony in Anatolia, the royal inscription of Erishum, and some laws of the Middle Assyrian Law Code.

Course/Module aims:
Familiarizing with more dialects of Akkadian, beyond the Old Babylonian dialect.
Reading samples of the different kinds of texts typical of the Old Assyrian world.
Learning the Old Assyrian ductus.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Read texts written in the Assyrian dialect of Akkadian.

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Frontal. Preparation of text for each class.

The system of pronominal suffixes
Bibliographical tools for the study of the Assyrian world
The Assyrian merchants in Kanish
