Course/Module description:
This course provides and introduction to the developments in feminist theory throughout the 20th century. We will get a taste of the different strands of feminism developing out of each other over the past century, we will see dialogues and influences between different schools of feminist thought starting with the forerunners of 2nd wave feminism through 2nd wave feminism, lesbian feminism, post feminism, French feminism post-feminism, non white and postcolonial feminist theory, ecofeminism and queer influences on feminism. We will focus on the differing interpretations of gender generated by the different schools of thought, and we will end with the rise and fall of gender as a tool to bring about social change.

Course/Module aims:
This is an interdisciplinary course involving social theory, popular culture, political relations, 20th century philosophy especial post-modern thought, history of ideas, as they intersect with feminist and gender theory and lived experience as expressed in identities and power relations.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Delineate the history of feminist theory.

Identify major schools of thought and major theoreticians in the field of feminist studies.

Relate critical issues in feminist theory to social, political, economic historical developments in their times.

Apply different theoretical perspectives to lived experience
Analyze connections and tensions between sex, gender and the manifestations of gender.

Develop a critical awareness of hidden gendered agendas in canonic and popular cultural objects.

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Lectures, class discussion of articles read at home, joint viewing of popular culture products (popular music, advertisements, extracts from movie) and group discussions of said popular culture products in light of the theoretical materials.

IV Lesbian Feminism - the first splinters from monolithic feminism. Political lesbianism
V Post-feminism – How it came into being and its different meanings.
VI French feminism post modernism meets968 within a gendered setting
VII Non White feminism African American, Hispanic, Mizrahi and Indian dialogues with monolithic second wave feminism
VIII Ecofeminism -the reflection of patriarchal constructions of gender, ethnos and natural resources
IX Foucauldian feminism - discourses of power and the construction of female identity
X Queer feminism breaking down the boundaries of gender
XI tying it all up

זהו קורס טעימות היסטורי הסוקר את התפתחות המחשבה הפמיניסטית במהלך כמאה השנים האחרונות. הקורס יפתח בגורמים שאפשרו את צמיחת התיאוריה והמעשה הפמיניסטיים. נציג בקצרה את מבשרי הפמיניזם של דור ראשון על מטרותיו. לאחר מכן נעבור למבשרות פמיניזם דור שני וירג'יניה וולף וסימון דה בובואר שייסדו שתי מגמות בולטות והפוכות בהגות ומתודולוגיה פמיניסטיים. נמשיך משם להולדתו של פמיניזם דור שני, קודם כתנועת גראס רוטס הצומחת מלמטה, ואחר כך כאסכולה באקדמיה. נדבר על הכיוונים השונים , ליברליים, רדיקליים, משפטיים ותרבותיים שהתפתחו בתוך הגל השני של הפמיניזם האנגלו אמריקני. משם נתחיל למפות את האופן בו התפצל הפמיניזם מדור שני, ואיך חוקרות שונות היו איתו בדיאלוג. נדבר על הולדתם של פמיניזם לסבי, פמיניזם לא לבן ופוסט קולוניאלי, פמיניזם צרפתי, פוסט-פמיניזם ופמיניזם פוסט מודרני, אקו-פמיניזם, השפעות פוקויאניות על פמיניזם, ונקנח בפמיניזם קווירי המערער על הגבולות שבין מין למגדר ועל עצם הקטגוריות המיניות והמגדריות שהפמיניזמים מדור ראשון ושני עמלו כה קשה לייצר. קורס זה מהווה בעצם את התוויית עלייתו ונפילתו של קטגוריית המגדר ככלי לשינוע ושינוי חברתיים.

חובות הקורס:
*השתתפות פעילה וקריאת הטקסטים בקצב של מאמר עד שלושה לשבוע. המאמרים מוטענים על אתר המודל וניתן להוריד אותם משם. כמו כן ספרים שמתוכם נלקחו המאמרים הושמו במחלקת שמורים בספריה המרכזית.
*כתיבת עבודה במהלכה יעשה שימוש בתיאוריה לצורך ניתוח תוצרי תרבות או הצגת זרם בפמיניזם שלא נגענו בו במהלך הסמסטר. הרפרט הכתוב יימסר בשיעור האחרון של הסמסטר. בקורס זה מתקיימת מדיניות של אפס סובלנות להעתקת עבודות. מי שיעשו שימוש בחומר ללא מתן קרדיט אקדמי כמקובל יועברו לטיפול ועדת משמעת.
