Course/Module description:
The course deals with central topics in the social and educatioal psychology of the classroom and the school. Topics will include: classroom management, biases, self-fulfilling prophecies (Pygmalion Effect and Golem Effect), teachers' differential behavior toward different students, classroom social structure and sociometric measurement, classroom observations, seating locations, discipline, students' perceptions and judgments, classroom climate, and students' evaluations of teachers.

Course/Module aims:
To teach knowledge, theory, research and application about central topics in the social psychology of the classroom.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Knowledge of classical studies in educational psychology, understanding of explicit and implicit classroom processes, and a bird's eye view of the development of the field.

Attendance requirements(%):
80%

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Lectures and reading.

Course/Module Content:
Classroom management, biases, self-fulfilling prophecies (Pygmalion and Golem Effects),teachers' differential classroom behavior, the teacher's pet phenomenon, verbal and nonverbal communication in the classroom, social structure and sociometric measurement, classroom observations, seating locations, discipline, students' perceptions and evaluations of teachers, classroom climate.

Grading Scheme :
Written / Oral / Practical Exam 60 %
Essay / Project / Final Assignment / Home Exam / Referat 40 %
