Course/Module description:
The course offers an overview of semantic phenomena characteristic of Hebrew in its development in the 20th century from both a historical-textual and a theoretical point of view.
Course/Module aims:
Students will be exposed to basic semantic concepts, focusing on the verbal phrase in Modern Hebrew. The course emphasizes the role of context in determining semantic interpretation and aims to develop students’ ability to construct and test semantic hypotheses.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
• Define basic concepts in semantics and exemplify them using constructions in Modern Hebrew
• Describe the historical development of linguistic constructions using corpus searches
• Read, present, and evaluate research on the semantics of Modern Hebrew
• Construct clear linguistic arguments about the interpretation of context dependent expressions

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction:
Class periods will consist of lectures as well as more interactive teaching modules. Students are required to participate actively in presentations and in discussion.

iv. Pronouns and copulas in Modern Hebrew
