Course/Module description:
The course concerns the material culture of medieval Jews in the lands of Islam and the ways it affected and reflected the Jewish society in the Islamicate world.

Course/Module aims:
To get acquainted with the material culture of the medieval Jews of Islam and to be aware of its centrality in shaping medieval Jewish society

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Students will be acquainted with the vast research on material culture. Students will be able to analyze Geniza documebts, extract from them information about material culture and understand its significance.

90%

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Frontal lectures accompanied by exercises in reading Geniza documents and discussions in class
