תאור כללי של הקורס:
בקורס נקרא מאמרים שבוחנים שמועות כז'אנר פולקלורי ביחס לז'אנרים דומים (אגדות, אגדות אורבניות, קונספירציה ורכילות) ונקרא על שמועות בהקשרים היסטוריים שונים (עלילות דם, שמועות במלחמות, שמועות בין "גזעים", שמועות באינטרנט). נעסוק בחקר השמועה בהקשר של חקר הפולקלור, היסטוריה, תרבות יום-יום ותרבות פופולארית.

מטרות הקורס:
בקורס נעמוד על אופני הפעולה של שמועה כמנגנון ידע, ונעמוד על ההקשרים שבהם שמועות פורחות. נלמד לזהות שמועות ביחס לתופעות דומות. נעמיק את ידיעותנו ביחס לז'אנרים בכלל.

תוצרי למידה :
בסיומו של קורס זה, סטודנטים יהיו מסוגלים:
1. להבדיל בין שמועות לתופעות דומות.
2.להצביע על מנגנון האמת של שמועות.
3. לנתח את הסיבות שתרמו להפצתה של שמועה ולשרידותה.
4. לרשום שמועה תוך עמידה על הבעיה ברישום של ידע מסוג זה.
5. להכליל ממופע של שמועה בודדת להקשר עקרוני שבו היא מופיעה, תוך מתן פירוש להופעתה.

שיטת ההוראה בקורס: בכל שיעור נדון טכסט אחד או יותר (חובת קריאה של טכסט אחד כל שיעור). דיון מכין יתקיים בפורום ב"מודל". במהלך הקורס ייערך תרגיל של רישום שמועה. עבודת הסיכום תתמקד בניתוח שמועה.
